Marbella has long been associated with sunshine, beaches and Mediterranean living. But there is another side of the city that has become increasingly difficult to ignore: wellness.
From Reformer Pilates and beachfront yoga to thalassotherapy, luxury spas, hiking and Mediterranean food, Marbella has all the ingredients for a trip built around feeling good.
And in September 2026, wellness is taking centre stage. World Wellness Weekend returns to Marbella from 17 to 20 September, bringing more than 50 free activities to different locations across the municipality.
Whether you are planning a dedicated wellness escape or simply want to balance your Marbella holiday with a few healthier experiences, here is our guide to the best ways to do it.

World Wellness Weekend Marbella 2026
September is an especially good month to discover Marbella’s wellness scene.
From 17 to 20 September 2026, Marbella will participate in World Wellness Weekend, an international initiative promoting health and wellbeing.
This year’s Marbella programme brings together more than 50 free activities across Marbella, Nueva Andalucía and San Pedro Alcántara.
Expect a varied programme including yoga, Pilates, meditation, massages, tai chi, healthy walks, boxing and even Tibetan singing bowls.
Marbella has participated in the initiative for five years, but you don’t need to visit during World Wellness Weekend to experience this side of the city. The event simply highlights something that already forms part of Marbella’s lifestyle throughout the year.
The Best Spas in Marbella
A proper wellness day in Marbella can be as active — or inactive — as you want it to be.
Some of the city’s best-known resorts have developed extensive wellness programmes that go far beyond the traditional hotel massage.
Marbella Club Wellness & Thalasso Spa
One of Marbella’s most established wellness destinations is Marbella Club Wellness.
Its approach is based around four pillars: wellbeing, spa, nutrition and fitness. Guests can combine treatments with yoga, Pilates, meditation, fitness and nutrition experiences.
The highlight is its Thalasso Spa, where seawater is at the centre of the experience. The facilities include a dynamic seawater pool alongside treatments and rituals inspired by thalassotherapy.
It’s an interesting choice if you want wellness to occupy more than an hour of your day. You can move from a Pilates or yoga session into the spa, have something healthy afterwards and spend the rest of the afternoon beside the Mediterranean.
Anantara Villa Padierna Spa
For something more immersive, Anantara Villa Padierna has one of the most extensive spa facilities in the Marbella area.
Its spa covers more than 2,000 m², with Roman baths, a hammam, Finnish and Greek saunas, steam rooms and an indoor hydrotherapy circuit.
Treatments range from massages and facials to physiotherapy, while wellness programmes can incorporate fitness, nutrition and aqua therapies.
If your idea of wellness involves disappearing into a spa for several hours, this is one of the places to know.

Yoga in Marbella: Take Your Practice Outside
There is something different about doing yoga when the Mediterranean is your backdrop.
Marbella’s mild climate makes it possible to take wellness outside for much of the year, and you’ll find yoga incorporated into the programmes of hotels, wellness centres and independent instructors across the city.
Marbella Club, for example, offers yoga and meditation as part of its wider wellbeing programme, while other venues organise outdoor sessions throughout the year.
During World Wellness Weekend, yoga becomes even easier to try, with free sessions forming part of the programme.
But you don’t necessarily need a formal class.
One of the pleasures of staying close to the centre is being able to walk down to the Mediterranean early in the morning, when the promenade and beaches are considerably quieter.
Combine a morning session with a walk back towards the historic centre and spend the rest of the morning following our Marbella Old Town walking tour.
That’s a pretty good way to start the day.
Reformer Pilates in Marbella
If there is one wellness activity that has exploded in popularity in recent years, it’s Reformer Pilates.
Marbella has very much embraced the trend.
Puente Romano Marbella has a dedicated Reformer Pilates studio offering both group and private classes. Its wider fitness programme also includes activities such as yoga, barre and boxing.
Marbella Club also has its own Pilates studio and offers both mat and Reformer Pilates.
For travellers who exercise regularly at home, this makes it relatively easy to maintain a routine while travelling without spending half your holiday inside a conventional gym.
A morning class followed by the beach is probably a more Marbella way of doing it anyway.

Turn Marbella’s Paseo Marítimo Into Your Outdoor Gym
You don’t have to spend anything to experience Marbella’s healthier side.
The Paseo Marítimo is effectively one enormous outdoor gym.
Head there early in the morning and you’ll see Marbella before the beach crowds arrive: people walking, running, cycling and exercising alongside the Mediterranean.
Starting from central Marbella, you can follow the promenade west towards the Golden Mile and simply turn around whenever you’ve had enough.
Alternatively, make the walk part of your day rather than treating it as exercise.
Stop for breakfast, spend some time at the beach and walk back towards the Old Town later.
If that sounds more like your pace, have a look at our guide to the best beaches around Marbella Old Town. Several are easily accessible from the historic centre on foot.
Take Wellness Into the Mountains
One of Marbella’s greatest advantages is easy to see from almost anywhere in the city.
Look away from the Mediterranean and you’ll see La Concha rising behind Marbella.
The proximity of the Sierra Blanca means a wellness trip here doesn’t need to revolve entirely around spas and studios. Marbella is also an excellent base for walking and hiking.
The climb towards La Concha is one of the area’s classic outdoor challenges, while shorter routes around the Sierra Blanca provide alternatives for those who don’t want to dedicate most of a day to a demanding hike.
The reward is the view.
From the mountains above Marbella, the city and Mediterranean stretch out below you, with visibility extending much further along the coast on clear days.
We’ve included La Concha and several easier alternatives in our guide to the best viewpoints in Marbella.
For hiking, spring and autumn are generally much more comfortable than the hottest weeks of summer.
Eat Well Without Turning Your Holiday Into a Diet
Wellness doesn’t mean spending your Marbella holiday counting calories.
The Mediterranean lifestyle already makes eating well relatively easy.
Fresh fish, vegetables, fruit, nuts and olive oil feature heavily in the local diet, while Marbella’s increasingly international food scene has brought more healthy cafés, plant-based restaurants and lighter options to the city.
If you’re actively looking for them, we’ve already put together our selection of the healthiest restaurants in Marbella Center.
There are also plenty of opportunities to balance healthy eating with enjoying Marbella properly.
Have the smoothie after Pilates.
Then have the tapas at night.
Balance is the point.
Create Your Own Wellness Day in Marbella
You don’t need to book an expensive week-long retreat to turn Marbella into a wellness destination.
In fact, one of the best ways to experience it is to combine wellness with the things you were already coming to Marbella to enjoy.
Morning: Start with an early walk along the Mediterranean, followed by yoga or Reformer Pilates.
Late morning: Have a relaxed breakfast before wandering through Marbella Old Town.
Afternoon: Spend a few hours at one of the beaches near Marbella Old Town or book a spa circuit and massage.
Evening: Return to the historic centre, walk through the narrow streets and finish the day with dinner.
If you have more time, you don’t need to pack everything into one day. Our guide to how many days you need in Marbella Old Town explains why slowing the trip down often makes Marbella much more enjoyable.
Why Marbella Old Town Works as a Wellness Base
Where you stay can have a surprisingly big impact on how relaxing your trip actually feels.
Marbella Old Town is compact enough that much of your day can happen on foot.
Restaurants and cafés are around the corner. The Paseo Marítimo and Mediterranean are roughly a ten-minute walk away from many parts of the historic centre. You can head out for breakfast, walk to the beach, explore the Old Town and return to your accommodation without organising transport every time you leave.
That’s particularly useful on a wellness-focused break.
Rather than staying inside a resort for your entire trip, you can choose the activities you actually want — Pilates one morning, a spa another afternoon, a hike another day — while still experiencing Marbella as a destination.

Stay in the Heart of Marbella Old Town
At Marbella Village, our apartments are located in the heart of Marbella Old Town, putting you within walking distance of the historic centre, restaurants, cafés, the promenade and the Mediterranean.
It means your Marbella wellness break doesn’t have to be confined to a resort.
Wake up in the Old Town, walk to the sea, spend the morning exploring, book a Pilates class or spa treatment and return for dinner among the narrow streets and squares of the Casco Antiguo.
You can experience the healthier side of Marbella without giving up everything else that makes the city worth visiting.
Wellness in Marbella Is More Than a Trend
World Wellness Weekend puts the spotlight on Marbella’s wellness scene for a few days in September, but the lifestyle exists here throughout the year.
The combination of the Mediterranean Sea, Sierra Blanca, outdoor exercise, healthy food, luxury spas, yoga and an expanding Pilates scene makes Marbella naturally suited to travellers who want something more from their holiday than simply lying beside a pool.
You can come specifically for a wellness escape.
Or you can spend one morning doing yoga, one afternoon in a spa, hike into the mountains, eat extremely well and call it a holiday.
We prefer the second option.
