Marbella in October 2026: Weather, Events & Things to Do

October might be one of Marbella’s most underrated months.

The intense summer heat has passed, the beaches are quieter and the Old Town settles into a much more relaxed rhythm. Yet Marbella is far from shutting down for the season.

Sunny afternoons can still be spent by the Mediterranean, restaurants and terraces remain part of everyday life, and the cooler temperatures make October particularly good for walking, hiking and exploring the city.

There are also several events happening throughout the month, from Marbella 4Days Walking to the traditional Feria de San Pedro Alcántara.

What Is Marbella Like in October?

October sits somewhere between Marbella’s long summer and the beginning of its quieter winter season.

The biggest difference is the pace.

July and August revolve around beaches, beach clubs and escaping the hottest hours of the day. October gives you much more freedom.

You can spend the morning wandering through the Old Town, have a long lunch outside, walk along the Mediterranean in the afternoon and still sit on a terrace in the evening when the weather cooperates.

There are fewer visitors than during peak summer, but enough activity for Marbella to still feel lively.

For travellers who prefer exploring a destination rather than spending the entire holiday beside a pool, October works particularly well.

Marbella Weather in October

Marbella’s October weather is generally mild, but it’s more changeable than during summer.

At the beginning of the month, warm and sunny days can still feel surprisingly summery. As October progresses, mornings and evenings gradually become cooler.

That’s actually one of the month’s biggest advantages.

Walking around Marbella becomes considerably more comfortable when you’re no longer dealing with the strongest summer heat.

Rain is more possible than in July or August, so you shouldn’t expect guaranteed beach weather every day. But a less predictable forecast doesn’t mean spending the holiday indoors.

The best approach is simply to keep your plans flexible.

Beach when it’s sunny. Explore the Old Town when it’s cloudy. Have a long lunch if it rains.

Marbella makes that pretty easy.

Can You Swim in Marbella in October?

Yes, you can still have beach days in Marbella in October.

The Mediterranean will naturally feel cooler than during peak summer, so whether you actually swim will depend on the weather and your tolerance for cooler water.

But on a sunny October afternoon, spending a few hours on the beach is completely realistic.

And there is one major advantage: space.

The beaches around central Marbella are noticeably quieter once the summer rush disappears.

Even if you don’t swim, October is a lovely month for walking along the coast, having lunch by the sea or simply sitting beside the Mediterranean.

Several beaches are within easy walking distance of the historic centre. Our guide to the best beaches around Marbella Old Town covers some of the easiest options to reach on foot.

What’s Happening in Marbella in October 2026?

October isn’t simply a quieter version of summer.

The month also brings several events to Marbella, including one of the city’s biggest international walking events and one of the area’s most traditional local celebrations.

Marbella 4Days Walking — 1 to 4 October

October starts with Marbella 4Days Walking, taking place from 1 to 4 October 2026.

The event celebrates its 15th edition this year and brings walkers from around the world to Marbella.

Participants can choose between routes of approximately 10, 20 and 30 kilometres, passing through different parts of the city, along the coastline and into the surrounding countryside.

You don’t have to participate for all four days either. Visitors can choose the number of days and distances that suit them.

It’s a nice example of the kind of activity that works particularly well in Marbella during October: you’re outside, you’re discovering the area and you’re doing it without the intense temperatures of midsummer.

You can find routes and participation information on the official Marbella 4Days Walking website.

Feria de San Pedro Alcántara — 13 to 19 October

Later in the month, things become a little more traditional.

The Feria de San Pedro Alcántara takes place from 13 to 19 October 2026 at the Recinto Ferial La Caridad.

San Pedro Alcántara is around 10 kilometres west of Marbella Old Town and its annual feria is one of the area’s major local celebrations.

Expect music, casetas, food, fairground attractions and activities throughout the week.

For visitors, it’s an opportunity to experience something quite different from the Marbella of luxury resorts, beach clubs and Puerto Banús.

Come during the afternoon for a more relaxed atmosphere or stay into the evening when the celebrations become livelier.

Entry to the feria is free, and you can check the latest programme through the official Marbella tourism website.

October Is Made for Exploring Marbella on Foot

This is probably one of the biggest reasons we like Marbella in October.

Walking becomes enjoyable again.

Start in Plaza de los Naranjos and wander through Calle Nueva, Calle Carmen and Calle Ancha. Continue through Parque de la Alameda and Avenida del Mar and, within minutes, you’ll arrive at the Mediterranean.

From there, you can continue along the Paseo Marítimo towards the Golden Mile for as long as you feel like walking.

No complicated itinerary is required.

If you’d rather have a route to follow, our Marbella Old Town walking tour connects some of the most beautiful streets and landmarks in the historic centre.

Enjoy Marbella’s Food Scene Without the Summer Rush

October also changes the rhythm of eating out.

During peak summer, Marbella’s most popular restaurants can require considerably more planning. By October, things begin to feel easier.

You can take your time over breakfast, stop for tapas when you’re hungry and enjoy dinner without building the entire day around a reservation.

It’s also a good opportunity to discover some of the places that opened recently.

Our guide to the new restaurants in Marbella in 2026 includes everything from Mediterranean dining to more casual concepts worth discovering during your stay.

And when the weather is good, don’t automatically move indoors.

October can still deliver exactly the kind of sunny afternoon that turns a quick lunch outside into a two-hour one.

Visit Marbella’s Local Markets

If you’re staying for several days, October is also a good month to experience some of Marbella’s everyday life.

Marbella’s weekly street market takes place every Monday in Las Albarizas, not far from the historic centre.

You’ll find everything from fruit, vegetables and olives to spices, clothing, shoes and household goods.

There are also markets elsewhere in the municipality throughout the week, including San Pedro Alcántara and Nueva Andalucía.

Our Marbella weekly markets guide explains where and when to find them.

Head Into the Mountains

October is also a great time to look in the opposite direction from the Mediterranean.

Sierra Blanca rises immediately behind Marbella, with La Concha dominating the skyline from much of the city.

During the hottest part of summer, longer hikes can be uncomfortable and require careful planning around the heat.

October is much better suited to exploring the mountains.

Experienced hikers can consider the climb towards La Concha, while shorter routes around Sierra Blanca provide less demanding alternatives.

The reward is seeing Marbella from a completely different perspective, with the city and Mediterranean stretching out below you.

Always check the weather before heading into the mountains, particularly after rainfall, and choose a route appropriate for your fitness and experience.

What to Pack for Marbella in October

Don’t pack as though you’re coming in January.

But don’t pack as though you’re coming in August either.

For daytime, bring T-shirts, light clothing, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes and swimwear.

For mornings and evenings, you’ll want a light jacket, cardigan or overshirt.

If the forecast looks uncertain, a lightweight waterproof layer or small umbrella won’t take up much space.

And if you’re planning to hike or participate in Marbella 4Days Walking, proper walking shoes are much more useful than another pair of sandals.

The easiest strategy is layers.

You might start the morning wearing a jacket, spend the afternoon in a T-shirt and want the jacket again by dinner.

What If It Rains?

October brings a greater chance of rain than summer, but a rainy day doesn’t have to ruin your trip.

Start with a slow breakfast or coffee in the Old Town. Explore the covered Mercado Municipal. Spend longer over lunch. Go shopping. Book a spa treatment.

And don’t necessarily cancel the entire day because of a bad morning.

Autumn weather can change, so keeping your plans flexible is often the easiest approach.

This is also where staying somewhere central becomes useful.

Instead of committing to a full-day itinerary, you can simply walk out into the Old Town and decide what to do depending on the weather.

Is Marbella Busy in October?

Marbella doesn’t become deserted once September ends.

The Old Town still has atmosphere, restaurants continue serving their terraces and the Paseo Marítimo remains part of everyday life.

What disappears is much of the intense peak-season pressure.

There is more room on the beaches, walking through the historic centre becomes easier and the overall rhythm feels slower.

You still get Marbella.

Just with a little more space.

Is October a Good Time to Visit Marbella?

If your idea of Marbella revolves exclusively around guaranteed heat and spending every day swimming, the middle of summer offers more predictable conditions.

But that’s not the only way to experience the city.

October is particularly good for travellers interested in food, walking, culture, outdoor activities, the Old Town and exploring Marbella at a slower pace.

You still have the Mediterranean and the possibility of warm beach days.

At the same time, cooler temperatures make activities such as hiking and walking considerably more appealing.

It’s a different version of Marbella — and for many visitors, a more enjoyable one.

Why Stay in Marbella Old Town in October?

October is one of those months when location makes a real difference.

When temperatures are comfortable, being able to walk almost everywhere becomes part of the holiday.

From Marbella Old Town, you can reach restaurants, cafés, shops, Avenida del Mar, the Paseo Marítimo and several nearby beaches without organising transport every time you leave.

You can go out for breakfast, walk to the sea, return in the afternoon and head out again for dinner without really planning any of it.

That’s exactly the kind of pace that suits October.

Marbella in October: A Different Side of the City

October isn’t Marbella trying to recreate August.

And that’s precisely the appeal.

The beaches become quieter. Walking becomes easier. The mountains become more inviting. Restaurants feel less rushed and local events give you reasons to explore beyond the usual tourist spots.

Some days might still feel like summer.

Others remind you that autumn has arrived.

Either way, Marbella continues moving at its own pace.

And if you’d rather experience the city without the crowds and heat of peak summer, October might be exactly the month you’re looking for.
